We analyze the longitudinal 4-probe conductance of mesoscopic normal and su-perconducting wires and predict that in the superconducting case, large negative values can arise for both the weakly disordered and localized regimes. This contrasts sharply with the behaviour of the longitudinal 4-probe conductance of normal wires, which in the localized limit is always exponentially small and positive.
متن کاملElectron Dephasing in Mesoscopic Metal Wires
The low-temperature behavior of the electron phase coherence time, τφ, in mesoscopic metal wires has been a subject of controversy recently. Whereas theory predicts that τφ(T ) in narrow wires should increase as T as the temperature T is lowered, many samples exhibit a saturation of τφ below about 1 K. We review here the experiments we have performed recently to address this issue. In particula...
متن کاملLow temperature anomaly in mesoscopic kondo wires
We report the observation of an anomalous magnetoresistance in extremely dilute quasi-one-dimensional AuFe wires at low temperatures, along with a hysteretic background at low fields. The Kondo resistivity does not show the unitarity limit down to the lowest temperature, implying uncompensated spin states. We suggest that the anomalous magnetoresistance may be understood as the interference cor...
متن کاملShotnoise in Mesoscopic Diffusive Andreev Wires
We study shot noise in mesoscopic diffusive wires between a normal and a superconducting terminal. We particularly focus on the regime, in which the proximity-induced reentrance effect is important. We will examine the difference between a simple Boltzmann-Langevin description, which neglects induced correlations beyond the simple conductivity correction, and a full quantum calculation. In the ...
متن کاملAttojoule calorimetry of mesoscopic superconducting loops.
We report the first experimental evidence of nontrivial thermal behavior of the simplest mesoscopic system--a superconducting loop. By measuring the specific heat C of an array of 450,000 noninteracting aluminum loops with very high accuracy of approximately 20 fJ/K, we show that the loops go through a periodic sequence of phase transitions (with a period of an integer number of magnetic flux q...
